During the late 1940s, U.S. Forest Service employees from the Aerial Fire Depot in Missoula, MT, began working on ideas to use aircraft technology more effectively for fighting fires in remote areas. This two wheeled Gyroscopic cargo carrier was created to transport men and equipment on narrow fire paths.
The technology available during the 1960s did not respond quickly enough when the carrier hit large rocks. Once the carrier was part of the way over, the gyroscope threw it to the ground-needless to say the project was abandoned.
